Bear Valley Perennials

Anytime you drive west on Hwy 60 out of Sauk City in southwestern Wisconsin you are in for a treat. Anytime you take this route and turn north on any road you are in for great treats. Do that in the summer, and you come across the wondrous sight of Bear Valley Perennials on the corner of Durst Rd. and Hwy 130. The natural beauty of this place is a magnetic attraction. Enjoy our photo gallery.

September 30, 2008: I stopped by again and learned that Billy Jones, the owner, had sold Bear Valley Perennials. She had just closed. As a result, she sold as many of her plants as she could. By the time I got there, well, the beauty of her work was gone. So enjoy this presentation even more. She said the new owner planned some kind of business here, but she did not know what it might be. I'll check again next year.

Shortly after leaving Sauk County to enter southeastern Richland County, we hooked a right and headed north on Hwy 130 and came to an area right on the Sauk-Richland County line known as Bear Valley. Do that in the summer, and you come across the wondrous sight of Bear Valley Perennials on the corner of Durst Rd. and Hwy 130.

It's hard to imagine it can get much better than this!

We'd like to introduce you to the young man who does the lion's share of work here for the owner. His name is Kyle.

Kyle

It was a very hot day in the valley when we visited, and Kyle had been working hard. Yet, he took time out from his chores to walk us around the property and show us the grounds and the greenhouses to the rear, which we did not photograph. He is a fine young man and knows his business inside and out.

ForSale

On the one hand, it was kind of sad to see a "For Sale" sign out front. On the other, we understand why and had we the money in our pocket, we would have looked at this more closely. Actually, we have called the agent to chat. You might wish to do the same. At the very least, we recommend you take a ride out there and enjoy the beauty. It is located in the sparsely populated Bear Valley formed by Bear Creek few miles east of Richland Center.

Oh yes, we could not resist, and brought home a bunch of perennials to put a little of that Bear Valley into Wausau!
